Isn’t it funny…you can live somewhere your entire life (like me living in Tampa my whole life) and not really know the history of it.
I mean sure… I know about pirate invasions of the past, but there’s still so much about Tampa I would like to unearth. Did you know that Tampa’s modern history can be tied back to the founding of Fort Brooke (in downtown) back in 1824? That was shortly following the United States taking Florida from Spain.
That’s just one historical nugget you might pick up on a Walking Tour put on by the Tampa Bay History Center.
You can take a guided tour of downtown Tampa, historic Tampa neighborhoods, Ybor City…The tours last about 90 minutes. You’ll be guided by a trianed docent from the Tampa Bay History Center. There will only be up to 25 people on the tour. Your walk will only be about a mile long, along sidewalks or brick streets. So make sure you have on comfortable shoes and bring your bottled water.
I chatted with Manny from the Tampa Bay History Center, and you’ll soon be able to hear our interview on the Experience Tampa Bay in 10 Minutes or Less podcast.
